Fall convention update

ACP/CMA Fall Convention going virtual

The Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association Fall National College Media Convention will be virtual for 2020.

Due to safety concerns around COVID-19, we will offer training for student-media programs remotely. You can expect timely, relevant programming delivered online instead of in person.

The live event was scheduled Oct. 21-25 in Atlanta. Now the event will be Oct. 22-24 and all online.

If you booked your rooms at the convention hotel in Atlanta, please cancel them to avoid penalties.

We invite you to submit session submissions now through July 31 at this link. We are excited that the virtual component will allow new voices who couldn’t travel before to contribute and attend. The planning committee is determining what this event will look like. We want to deliver high-quality, relevant training that our student media programs need now more than ever.

Continue to visit collegemediaconvention.org for information as planning continues, and please share your ideas for sessions and programming at the link above.

June 19, 2020

The Fall National College Media Convention, sponsored by Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association, remains scheduled for Oct. 21-25 in Atlanta as we monitor COVID-19 and its effects on events and travel.

Thus our fall convention may take a different form, but with our continued commitment to valuable educational content.

As of now, we have not canceled the in-person component of the event. We are reimagining the convention as a hybrid event that includes both on-site and virtual programming. However, if there is a travel ban or large-gathering ban instituted in Georgia, we plan to shift entirely to virtual programming.

That means some convention content will be available to those who can’t travel to Atlanta, and if we can proceed with the in-person event safely, we will host it. If we cannot host the event in Atlanta, we will shift completely to virtual.

Programming: Submit sessions

We’re pleased to welcome the convention programming coordinator, Rhys Finch, assistant director of student media at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

As we plan the program, Rhys encourages you to contribute session ideas at this link by July 31.

On the session form, you can select whether you would want to present the session in person (if possible) or virtually. We are excited that the virtual component will allow new voices who couldn’t travel before to contribute.

Tell us your plans at this point

Many of us face budget freezes, travel bans and even hesitance to travel. To help us with convention planning, would you take a moment and complete this brief survey on your situation? That will help us with our planning.

We will continue our work of protecting members and serving collegiate journalists and advisers, and we thank you for your continued patience as we navigate COVID-19.

You can expect more updates and more information as the summer progresses.

Thank you!
